Figuring out Tabards in Eight Easy Steps

So you’ve hit level 85 and you’re ready to start working on your Cataclysm reputations. You equip a tabard and start running level 85 dungeons, but which tabard should you put on first, second, etc.?

There are plenty of websites and posts listing reputation rewards, but very little that gives you a clear goal of which to start with. For example, I’ve noticed one of my guildies wearing the Therazane tabard (which has dailies) versus the Earthen Ring (which has no dailies). Due to these differences there is a clearly efficient method for obtaining your reputation reward gear. In this post I’m going to list the order that tabards would be worn, the gear obtained at which reputation levels, the dailies that you can use to grind your reputations in the meantime, and why a reputation piece might be skipped (e.g., crafting pieces are available). Note, that these recommendations are assuming that you will be doing the full 25 dailies, that when your faction does NOT have Tol Barad you are filling in those 6 dailies with others, and you are filling in the rest of your daily log with dailies from your remaining factions. Also, that I’ve done very little theorycrafting to determine if a given reputation reward is better than what you might find elsewhere because we all know that the RNG gods don’t always cooperate whereas a purchased piece is a sure bet.

Druid

  1. Start out doing the full complement of Twilight Highlands Dailies (Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan) and Tol Barad Dailies (Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach) to begin getting reputation for both of these factions as they will net you the first epics as a tree.
  2. While working on these dailies, put on your first tabard, Tabard of the Guardians of Hyjal until Revered to net your: Arcanum of Hyjal, Aessina-Blessed Gloves, and if you haven’t had a good drop in your dungeons yet Cloak of the Dryads.
  3. Next put on your Tabard of the Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan to wear until Exalted for: Withered Dream Belt/Belt of the Untamed (a better choice than the crafted one due to the haste), and Yellow Smoke Pendant/Lightning Flash Pendant, which can be reforged as needed.
  4. In the meantime switch to doing your Therazane Dailies instead of the Twilight Highlands ones (you have a maximum of 25 dailies you can complete, ya know) and you just equipped the tabard.
  5. At this point you should be getting close to achieving the Exalted reputation you need with Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach, which will net you: Mandala of Stirring Patterns, and at Revered you may have picked up the Mace or Staff (e.g., Shimmering Morningstar or Insidious Staff) if you were having trouble with drops.
  6. Now put on your Tabard of Therazane which will net you: Lesser Inscription of Charged Lodestone, the shoulder enchant at Honored, Diamant’s Ring of Temperance a ring at Revered, and the upgraded Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone shoulder enchant at Exalted.
  7. The Tabard of the Earthen Ring should now be worn until Revered for: Pendant of Elemental Balance a potential pre-raid pendant if you think the Spirit is more important than the intellect from the Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan, and the Cloak of Ancient Wisdom if you’ve had really bad RNG luck.
  8. Finally, equip that Tabard of Ramkahen to purchase the Ammunae’s Blessing at honored if you have had really really bad RNG luck or you want different stats, and because I know you’ve been wondering when you can get a camel

Paladin

  1. Start out doing the full complement of Tol Barad Dailies (Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach) and Ramkahen Dailies to begin getting reputation for both of these factions as they will net you the first epics.
  2. While working on these dailies, put on your first tabard, Tabard of the Earthen Ring until Exalted for: World Keeper’s Gauntlets epic gloves, Peacemaker’s Breastplate if you haven’t gotten the crafted epic or you like the stats better, Cloak of Ancient Wisdom, and Pendant of Elemental Balance at least until the epic one is available to you.
  3. Next equip your Tabard of Ramkahen until Exalted for: Sun King’s Girdle epic belt if you haven’t gotten the crafted epic or like the stats better, Drystone Greaves a pre-raiding pair of boots, Ammunae’s Blessing at honored if your luck has not been good, and of course your camel
  4. In the meantime switch to doing your Therazane Dailies (you have a maximum of 25 dailies you can complete, ya know), as you just equipped the Ramkahen tabard.
  5. At this point you should also be getting close to achieving the Exalted reputation you need with Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach, which will net you: Mandala of Stirring Patterns, and at Revered you may have picked up the Mace  (e.g., Shimmering Morningstar ) if you were having trouble with drops.
  6. You can then put on your Tabard of the Guardians of Hyjal until Revered to get your: Arcanum of Hyjal and if you haven’t had a good drop in your dungeons yet Cloak of the Dryads.
  7. Finally, equip that Tabard of the Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan to wear until Exalted for: Yellow Smoke Pendant/Lightning Flash Pendant, which can be reforged as needed.
  8. Now at this point you should be reaching Exalted with Therazane and can pick up your shoulder enchants: Lesser Inscription of Charged Lodestone at honored, Diamant’s Ring of Temperance a ring at Revered, and the upgraded Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone shoulder enchant at Exalted.

  1. Start out doing the full complement of Tol Barad Dailies (Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach) and Therazane Dailies to begin getting reputation for both of these factions as they will net you epics and enchants.
  2. While working on these dailies, put on your first tabard, Tabard of the Earthen Ring until Exalted for: Flamebloom Gloves your first epic, Pendant of Elemental Balance at least until the epic one from the Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan, and the Cloak of Ancient Wisdom.
  3. Next equip your Tabard of the Guardians of Hyjal until Exalted for: Cord of the Raven Queen which may not be an upgrade if you have the tailor crafted Belt of the Depths, Arcanum of Hyjal, and Cloak of the Dryads.
  4. At this point you should also be getting close to achieving the Exalted reputation you need with Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach, which will net you: Mandala of Stirring Patterns, and at Revered you may have picked up the Mace or Staff (e.g., Shimmering Morningstar or Insidious Staff) if you were having trouble with drops.
  6. In the meantime don’t forget to do your Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan (you have a maximum of 25 dailies you can complete, ya know) as you just equipped the Therazane tabard.
  7. Next equip your Tabard of Ramkahen to purchase the Ammunae’s Blessing at honored if you still need a ring, and because I know you’ve been wondering when you can get a camel
  8. Finish off wearing your Tabard of Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan until Exalted for: Yellow Smoke Pendant/Lightning Flash Pendant, which can be reforged as needed.

  3. Next equip your Tabard of the Guardians of Hyjal until Revered for: Arcanum of Hyjal, Wilderness Legguards, and Cloak of the Dryads.
  4. At this point you should also be getting close to achieving the Exalted reputation you need with Baradin’s Wardens/Hellscreams’ Reach, which will net you: Mandala of Stirring Patterns, and at Revered you may have picked up the Mace or Staff (e.g., Shimmering Morningstar or Insidious Staff).
  5. Next equip your Tabard of Ramkahen to purchase the Ammunae’s Blessing at honored if you still need a ring, Sash of Prophecy belt available at revered that you can use until you can get the crafted waist, and you can get a camel
  6. In the meantime don’t forget to do your Dragonmaw Clan/Wildhammer Clan (you have a maximum of 25 dailies you can complete, ya know) as you just equipped the Ramkahen tabard.

  1. Awesome guide! That must have taken forever to put together!

I wish I’d had a guide like this when I was frantically getting my pally ready for raiding. It’ll come in handy for when I get around to paying attention to some alts and I’ll definitely pass the link around.

    • Thanks for the support! I’ve been using these lists for my toons since I have way too many healing alts not to plan all of this out ahead of time.

  2. [...] that character geared. It’s also a huge headache. So Kahiaau at Green Bar Spec wrote a guide for each of the healing classes. I was thrilled that someone did the hard work to, in case I ever level another healer, make my [...]

  3. Thanks for the guide! I shared it on our guild forums for any alt healers leveling up.

Also, you should yank the Insidious Staff from the paladin section, as they can’t equip staves. : )

  4. Oh what a great guide! Just hit 85 on my third healer (druid) so she has lots of grinding to do from scratch. Next up? Getting my lvl 81 shammy to 85 :)

    Thanks for the great resource!
