The Power of Power Auras

In the process of avoiding tackling the finishing touches on my post on unit frames as a means of healing, I ran across some posts on the use of a certain addon for tracking the up-time of the new Mastery for druids.

Symbiosis (Mastery) has been removed and replaced with Harmony. Harmony increases direct healing by an additional 10%, and casting direct healing spells grants an additional 10% bonus to periodic healing for 10 seconds. Each point of mastery increases each bonus by an additional 1.25%.

If you are a raiding druid, this change may be making you reach for your buff tracking addon of choice to track an additional “proc”. My go-to addon of choice is Power Auras, although I used to use TellMeWhen before I recognized the need for more configuration options. There are a myriad of alternatives such as Satrina’s Buff Frames, Auracle and many more. I’m going to talk about the power of Power Auras and how I utilize this amazing tool.

What is Power Auras?
Power Auras is a notification addon that will alert you to the buffs and debuffs on yourself, a groupmate/raidmate, target/focus, or an enemy. The biggest advantage of Power Auaras over many of the other buff/defuff watchers and notification addons is the customizability of the graphics and timers. Now while this is the biggest advantage of this addon, it is also like Grid it’s biggest disadvantage because it can take a lot of practice to configure your notifications in just the right way to get it to show up at the right time and in the right place. Therefore, I present you with three sources to get you started on what is power auras and the basics of creating a notification:

Power Aura Details
Now that you know what Power Auras are and some basics on creating a notification, I’ll list here with “export strings” the power auras I use (and some extras) for my healers. The export strings are pieces of code which can then be copied and pasted by another player using the Import option.

Global Effects
Global Effects
1. Low Mana – This will activate when a healer hits 60% mana to remind me to use a mana regen talent (e.g., innervate, shadowfiend, etc.). It fades away after a few seconds, but will return each time I hit my threshold.

Version:4.21; g:0.1294; icon:inv_alchemy_elixir_02; r:0.2235; bufftype:9; texture:6; alpha:1; duration:5; threshold:60; size:0.54; torsion:1.18; y:-53

2. Bloodlust/Heroism Buff – A notification with a timer while I’m under the effects of bloodlust/heroism.

Version:4.21; b:0; anim1:2; g:0.0196; buffname:Heroism/Bloodlust; r:0.9176; unitn:Only for raid/group.; texture:9; alpha:1; stacksOperator:=; size:0.41; y:-93; anim2:4; finish:3; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.25; timer.Texture:Monofonto; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:BOTTOM; timer.y:23; timer.x:-5; timer.Transparent:true

3. Target Health Threshold – A notification that your focus target is at 30% health. This one is really useful in shadowfang keep to notify me when the first boss hits Dark Archangel.

Version:4.21; b:0.3882; g:0.2745; icon:inv_alchemy_elixir_05; bufftype:8; focus:true; texture:10; alpha:1; duration:5; threshold:31; Instance5ManHeroic:true; size:0.54; torsion:1.18; y:-53

Druid
Power Auras for Druid
1. Lifebloom Stack with Timer – When Cata came out and I realized that lifebloom plays such a critical role in mana management, I needed an “in your face” way to track how many stacks and the time left on my lifebloom stack. This is split into multiple export strings because it has to be built for each stack. Each application of lifebloom adds a “petal” to the set and resets the timer.

Version:4.21; b:0.6392; icon:INV_Misc_Herb_Felblossom; buffname:Lifebloom; r:0.3569; begin:3; x:51; texture:123; symetrie:1; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; groupOrSelf:true; size:0.5; y:-32; ismounted:0; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.43; timer.Texture:Crystal; timer.enabled:true; timer.cents:false; timer.Relative:BOTTOMRIGHT; timer.y:15; timer.x:-37
Version:4.21; b:0.098; g:0.4549; icon:INV_Misc_Herb_Felblossom; buffname:Lifebloom; r:0.0549; begin:3; x:38; stacks:1; texture:123; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; groupOrSelf:true; size:0.6; torsion:0.77; y:-8
Version:4.21; b:0.3569; g:0.9451; icon:INV_Misc_Herb_Felblossom; buffname:Lifebloom; r:0.2784; begin:3; x:44; stacks:2; texture:123; alpha:0.74; aurastext:Pattern of Light Proc!; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; groupOrSelf:true; size:0.49; torsion:1.11; y:-38

2. Clearcasting Timer – I needed a proc timer along with the built-in aura to let me know how long I had before I would lose my clearcasting proc. I placed it in a similar color near that actual aura.

Version:4.21; b:0.6392; icon:Spell_Shadow_ManaBurn; buffname:Clearcasting; r:0.3569; begin:3; x:-10; texture:160; alpha:0.1; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; groupOrSelf:true; size:0.65; y:-25; ismounted:0; timer.b:0.1176; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.g:0.4078; timer.h:1.86; timer.Texture:Crystal; timer.enabled:true; timer.r:0.1882; timer.cents:false; timer.Relative:TOPRIGHT; timer.x:89

3. Tree Form Cooldown – A cooldown timer to tell me when I can use tree form again.

Version:4.21; b:0.8863; g:0.9059; icon:Ability_Druid_TreeofLife; buffname:Tree of Life; r:0.898; x:63; customname:33891; bufftype:15; alpha:0.22; exact:true; customtex:true; size:0.12; y:25; texmode:2; inverse:true; anim2:1; finish:0; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:2.04; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:TOP; timer.y:-5; timer.x:-23; timer.Transparent:true

4. Harmony Timer – A timer to keep track of my Harmony buff uptime.

Version:4.21; b:0.5569; icon:Spell_Nature_HealingWay; buffname:Harmony; r:0.3059; x:-55; texture:209; alpha:1; size:0.43; torsion:0.72; y:-14; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:2.1; timer.enabled:true; timer.cents:false; timer.y:39; timer.x:-84

Paladin
Paladin Power Auras
1. Holy Shock Timer – I needed a cooldown timer for Holy Shock (even though I have Cooldown timers on my buttons). I have it near my holy power stacks because holy shock builds holy power.

Version:4.21; b:0; g:0.8275; icon:Spell_Holy_SearingLight; buffname:Holy Shock; x:111; bufftype:7; texture:118; alpha:1; PowerType:0; textaura:true; aurastextfont:4; size:0.7; y:-87; inverse:true; timer.g:0.9412; timer.h:2.23; timer.Texture:Original; timer.enabled:true; timer.r:0.651; timer.cents:false; timer.Relative:TOPRIGHT; timer.y:-6; timer.x:-5; timer.UseOwnColor:true

2. Holy Power – My version of a way to track my Holy Power “stack”. This is another power aura split into multiple export strings because it has to be built for each stack. Each new holy glyph adds a “star” to the set.

Version:4.21; b:0; g:0.8196; thresholdinvert:true; icon:spell_holy_lightsgrace; x:78; bufftype:10; texture:22; alpha:0.25; PowerType:9; threshold:1; size:0.25; y:10
Version:4.21; b:0; g:0.8431; thresholdinvert:true; icon:spell_holy_lightsgrace; x:77; bufftype:10; texture:22; alpha:0.5; PowerType:9; threshold:2; size:0.25; y:-22
Version:4.21; b:0; g:0.8275; thresholdinvert:true; icon:spell_holy_lightsgrace; x:76; bufftype:10; texture:22; PowerType:9; threshold:3; size:0.25; y:-54

3. Judgment Reminder – A reminder to use Judgement everytime it’s on cooldown.

Version:4.21; b:0.9843; icon:Spell_Holy_RighteousFury; buffname:Judgement; r:0.9686; x:4; bufftype:7; texture:188; alpha:0.47; symetrie:1; combat:true; size:0.25; y:84

4. Guardian of Ancient Kings Cooldown – A cooldown timer to tell me when I can use Guardian of Ancient Kings.

Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_Heroism; buffname:Guardian of Ancient Kings; x:-60; bufftype:7; texture:164; alpha:0.33; owntex:true; mine:true; combat:true; size:0.16; y:28; texmode:2; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.27; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:TOP; timer.y:1; timer.x:-9; timer.Transparent:true

5. Divine Plea Cooldown – A cooldown timer to tell me when I can use Divine Plea.

Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_Aspiration; buffname:Divine Plea; x:-60; bufftype:7; texture:164; alpha:0.33; owntex:true; mine:true; combat:true; size:0.16; y:-45; texmode:2; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.27; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:TOP; timer.y:1; timer.x:-9; timer.Transparent:true

Priest
Priest Power Auras
1. Evangelism/Archangel – Fills in for each stack of Evangelism, with a timer showing duration. This is the priest version of a notification that has to be split into multiple export strings because it is built up for each stack. I modified a Power Aura by amrini (Power Auras Wiki – Priest Exports).

Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_DivineIllumination; buffname:Evangelism; begin:3; x:-83; texture:89; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; size:0.4; y:-40; ismounted:0; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.43; timer.Texture:Crystal; timer.enabled:true; timer.cents:false; timer.Relative:CENTER; timer.Transparent:true
Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_DivineIllumination; buffname:Evangelism; begin:3; x:-83; stacks:1; texture:90; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; size:0.4; y:-41; ismounted:0
Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_DivineIllumination; buffname:Evangelism; begin:3; x:-83; stacks:2; texture:91; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; size:0.4; y:-41; ismounted:0
Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_DivineIllumination; buffname:Evangelism; begin:3; x:-83; stacks:3; texture:92; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; size:0.4; y:-39; ismounted:0
Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Holy_DivineIllumination; buffname:Evangelism; begin:3; x:-83; stacks:4; texture:93; speed:0.16; stacksOperator:>; size:0.4; y:-40

2. Shadowfiend Cooldown – A situation arose in which I realized I wasn’t utilizing my shadowfiend during some shadow priest activities; it worked so well I ended up keeping it around for my healing activities. I show the icon and a timer for it’s cooldown.

Version:4.21; icon:Spell_Shadow_Shadowfiend; buffname:Shadowfiend; x:73; customname:Shadowfiend; bufftype:7; texture:238; alpha:0.31; customtex:true; combat:true; size:0.15; y:-29; timer.HideLeadingZeros:true; timer.h:1.59; timer.enabled:true; timer.Relative:TOP; timer.x:-16

3. Power Infusion Notification – This is my Priest cooldown that I tend to forget, so I created a Power Aura to remind me to use it.

Version:4.21; anim1:4; icon:Spell_Holy_PowerInfusion; buffname:Power Infusion; x:77; unitn:Only for raid/group.; bufftype:7; alpha:1; owntex:true; stacksOperator:=; combat:true; size:0.16; y:-92

4. Stunned Notification – The “why can’t I use my spells?” cue. Useful for PvP since this is my go-to toon for that activity. Note: Not shown in the image.

Version:4.21; b:0.2902; g:0.1255; icon:Ability_Mage_DeepFreeze; buffname:Kidney Shot/Hammer of Justice/Cheap Shot/Maim/Charge Stun/Intercept/Concussion Blow/Pounce/Shadowfury/Deep Freeze/Gnaw/Intimidation/Repentance/Impact/Blackout/shockwave; x:8; customname:Kidney Shot; bufftype:2; texture:27; alpha:1; aurastext:Stun; stacksOperator:=; groupOrSelf:true; aurastextfont:6; size:0.3; y:52; texmode:2; finish:0

Shaman
Power Auras for Shaman
1. Shield Reminder – This is a reminder that my water shield has fallen off. I use the same one (with a slight tweak) for elemental spec lightning shield.

Version:4.21; g:0.7882; icon:Ability_Shaman_WaterShield; buffname:Water Shield; r:0.6392; x:67; unitn:Ooeooahah; texture:21; alpha:0.5; PowerType:0; combat:true; size:0.48; y:-68; inverse:true

2. Weapon Embue Reminder – This is a reminder that my earthliving weapon embue has fallen off. I use the same one (with a slight tweak) for elemental spec.

Version:4.21; b:0.451; g:0.6706; icon:inv_weapon_shortblade_100; buffname:Earthliving; r:0.251; x:65; bufftype:5; texture:19; alpha:0.35; PowerType:0; combat:true; size:0.33; y:15; inverse:true

3. Unleash Elements Cooldown – A cooldown timer to tell me when I can use Unleash Elements.

Version:4.21; anim1:4; icon:Spell_Shaman_ImprovedStormstrike; buffname:Unleash Elements; x:-51; unitn:Only for raid/group.; bufftype:7; alpha:1; owntex:true; stacksOperator:=; combat:true; size:0.16; y:-49
